The history of classification - declassification of cartographic information in the USSR and modern Russia

The history of unjustified secrecy and deliberate distortion maps in the Soviet Union and its consequences, in particular for local history work are under consideration. It is told about the initiation of the declassification of cartographic information by the magazine "Energy" and the author's participation in the process. Secrecy of a modern geospatial database is considered. Criticism of AO "Roskartografia" and justified the creation of the Ministry of Cartography and Geoinformatics of Russia.
